NAUTILUS thunderstorm forecasts

Thunderstorms regularly pose major challenges for aviation, especially in summer when the holiday season coincides with the thunderstorm season. Thunderstorm areas severely restrict the available airspace, leaving less space for air traffic control to safely manage the planned traffic volume.

Delays or flight cancellations are the result. The most accurate forecasting possible is therefore extremely important. This is why Austro Control Digital Services has developed the NAUTILUS weather model, which can forecast the development of thunderstorms for a period of several hours. Unlike classic weather models, NAUTILUS also uses the current thunderstorm situation and is consequently able to predict thunderstorms with significantly greater precision. This makes NAUTILUS one of the most advanced weather models, providing an ideal basis for important decisions in aviation.
